Strange Luxuries
You might also call them comfortable quirks of modern living. A few of them that have either been installed in the house, or are here on accident. An incomplete list:
1. The freezer chest in the basement.
Essentially a home meat locker. Chickens, beef, and soon ducks will all wait there until we’re ready to cook them. Like having a robotic butcher shop with one setting: deep freeze.
2. The cool corner of the living room.
If I open the windows at night, then close everything before dawn and keep the shades shut all day, it’s like I live in a house with a weak air conditioner. Home-atmospheric management is one of my favorite things about being a home owner.
3. Gravy.
In the dictionary it’s “the fat and juices exuding from meat during cooking.” It’s also really decadent when you think about it. What fancy dinner is complete without it.
